New! Neuro PET tutorial and cases:
Craniopharyngioma
A large enhancing mass was demonstrated in the suprasellar region on MRI scan. The FDG uptake in the mass is inhomogeneous. The periphery of the heterogeneously enhancing component of the mass has minimal FDG uptake indicating low malignant potential. However, in the center of the heterogeneously enhancing component and corresponding to a focus of uniform enhancement on MRI scan, there is increased FDG uptake indicating aggressive feature. If tissue biopsy is planned, biopsy of the center more intensely enhancing region might get better yield. In the area of high T2 signal along the bilateral optic tracts noted on the MRI scan, there is minimal FDG uptake, comparable to the periphery of the larger, more inferior component of the mass. The overall pattern of the lesion is more compatible with a glioma with mixed features and a more aggressive component at the center than a germ cell metastasis.
Tracer uptake in the rest of the cerebral cortex, subcortical structure, cerebellum are unremarkable.

Radiology boards wisdom of the day:
Written Boards(*ipsilateral to face abnormalities)
Wallenberg syndrome is caused by a PICA infarct resulting in loss of pain and temperature sense of the contralateral body and ipsilateral face, as well as ataxia, ipsilateral dysphagia and taste disorders, hoarseness, vertigo, and nystagmus, and ipsilateral Horner’s syndrome. The basilar artery sends out many tiny branches to the pons and medulla. The AICA supplies the inner ear through labyrinthine branches, the anteroinferior cerebellum, and medulla and pons. The PCA infarcts typically affect vision and may affect memory, smell, and emotion.

A new program was launched on Radiolopolis: "Dare To Share!". Dare To Share! is a project, which allows sharing cases between researchers and colleagues. Users may find interesting or needed cases/images for different kind of projects (studies, books, publications, presentations etc.) while assuring the owner's credentials/copyright of the case. Direct contact between the searcher and the owner of the case provides also a good opportunity to get to know new, potential partners for future projects. More infos about the Dare To Share! program can be found here.

| Necrotizing Fasciitis Associated with Staphylococcus lugdunensis |
|
Necrotizing fasciitis is a life-threatening soft tissue infection that results in rapid local tissue destruction. Type 1 necrotizing fasciitis is characterized by polymicrobial, synergistic infections that are caused by non-Group A streptococci, aerobic and anaerobic organisms. Type 2 necrotizing fasciitis involves Group A Streptococcus (GAS) with or without a coexisting staphylococcal infection. Here we provide the first report of necrotizing fasciitis jointly associated with the microbes Group B Streptococcus and Staphylococcus lugdunensis. S. lugdunensis is a commensal human skin bacterium known to cause often painful and prolonged skin and soft tissue infections. To our knowledge, however, this is the first case of Staph. lugdunensis-associated necrotizing fasciitis to be reported in t...

| Management of Agitation Following Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Is There a Role for Beta-Blockers? |
|
Discussion. Antipsychotics and benzodiazepines are often not sufficiently effective in the control of agitation/aggression in patients with traumatic brain injury and similar conditions. Our case report and the literature review including a cochrane review suggests that beta-blockers may be helpful in this situation.

| A Giant Scapular Aneurysmal Bone Cyst in a Child |
|
Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are rare benign bone tumours. Scapula is a very rare location, and the relative literature is sparse. The purpose of this study is to present a case of a giant aggressive scapular aneurysmal bone cyst in a child. A 7-year-old boy presented to our hospital with pain and a palpated mass on the right scapula. Imaging studies (radiographs computed tomography scintigraphy) were indicative of aneurysmal bone cyst. We performed curettage and bone grafting after the diagnosis was set by pathological examination through a posterior shoulder approach. Five years later, the patient has only residual signs of the lesion on radiographic control without signs of recurrence.

| Perianal Plaques of Cytomegalovirus in a Patient with Central Nervous System Lymphoma |
|
Cutaneous manifestations of cytomegalovirus (CMV) in patients without human immunodeficiency virus remain rare. Perianal CMV may be observed due to periodic fecal shedding but may be confused for other pathogens, and definitive diagnosis requires histopathologic examination. An instructive case is described, and the literature reviewed.
