  • I have recently updated 3 images taken from a case I wish to submit to the JRCR regarding an unsuspected case of progressive supranuclear palsy with text-book findings on MRI consistant with this condition. I would appreciate your feedback to further progress my case for submission. Thanks and regards

Roland Talanow Case needs to be uploaded with short but pertinent description of findings and what makes it case report worthy (publishable). We will evaluate that information and based on that will decide if accepted for submission or not. This might take a few days. Thank you for considering the JRCR.

  • On May 25th, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released a proposed rule that, if finalized, would permit advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) practicing in the VA to exercise “full practice authority” to perform a variety of services that are generally considered to be the practice of medicine. Specifically, and of particular concern to the American College of Radiology (ACR), Certified Nurse Practitioners (CNPs) would be allowed to order, perform, supervise and interpret complex imaging studies, such as MR and CT, independent of physician oversight, regardless of individual state law.
ACR strongly believes that such a policy could seriously undermine the quality of care that our veterans receive and therefore opposes the adoption of this proposed rule. Our members know the safe and appropriate use of imaging is most appropriately conducted utilizing a physician-led team approach where expertly trained radiologists supervise radiological technologists who are trained in radiation safety and image/acquisition techniques, along with other appropriately qualified personnel. The VA’s proposal of substituting patient access to radiologists for much less-trained APRNs could pose immediate dangers for patients at the point-of-care. Simply stated, for anyone who feels our veterans deserve the best care available, this VA proposal is not a good idea.
The rule is posted for review and comment until July 25th, and we ask that you take a few minutes and urge the VA not to finalize this part of their proposal. I have included suggested text, but please feel free to edit and personalize your message if you like. Use the link below to access the proposal.
