  • CONCLUSIONS: This case-control study shows that the carotid siphon morphology seems not to be related to PComA aneurysm formation or rupture. PMID: 27012777 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

  • ConclusionThe left ventricular volume and function differs in women compared with men in the middle‐aged population, and these parameters have a tendency of decrease with ageing. J. Magn. Reson. Imaging 2016.

  • This study provides evidence of the incremental value of using 3D-TEE rather than 2D-TEE during assessments of PS, specifically in cases where special conditions (pregnancy, pulmonary regurgitation, and concomitant atrial septal defects) cause recordings of the transvalvular peak gradient to be inaccurate. Therefore, 3D-TEE should be used as a complementary imaging tool to 2D-TEE during routine echocardiographic examinations.

  • Abstract Echocardiographic assessment of left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony is used to predict response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). However, the association between reduction in the extent of speckle tracking based LV-dyssynchrony and echocardiographic response to CRT has not been explored yet. The aim of this study was to assess the changes in the extent of LV dyssynchrony as a result of CRT and its association with echocardiographic response to CRT in a large consecutive series of patients. We studied 138 patients with standard CRT indication. Time-based speckle tracking longitudinal strain (maximal delay between 6-segments in 4-chamber view) was performed to assess LV-dyssynchrony at baseline and after a mean follow-up of 22 ± 8 months. Echocardiographic CR...

  • Abstract Aortic aneurysms are a significant cause of mortality, and the presence of multiple aneurysms may affect treatment plans. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs) and to establish whether patient specific factors, such as gender and comorbidities, influenced the frequency of AAAs, thereby indicating if and when abdominal aortic evaluation is justified. Electronic medical records were reviewed from 1000 patients with a computed tomography (CT) angiogram of the chest and abdomen and a clinical diagnosis of TAA from Cardiac Surgery clinic between 2008 and 2013. 538 patients with history of aortic intervention, dissection, rupture or trauma were excluded. The frequency of A...
