Category: Musculoskeletal Imaging, Region: Neck-Larynx, Plane:

TECHNIQUE: Sagittal, coronal, and axial non-contrast CT, 120kV, 115mAs, 2.7mm slices. FINDINGS: (A) Sagittal view shows significant separation between the cricoid cartilage (red arrow) and the tracheal cartilage (green arrow), which is easily identified due to extensive calcification. Note that the hyperinflated endotracheal tube (ETT) cuff (yellow bracket) is between the aforementioned structures. Additionally, the "telescope sign is identified, as the thyroid cartilage (yellow arrow) is posterior to the hyoid bone (white arrow) with loss of the thyrohyoid distance. (B) Coronal view demonstrating hyperinflated cuff (yellow bracket) between the cricoid cartilage (red arrow) and the proximal calcified tracheal cartilage (green arrow). (C) Axial view demonstrating the partially visualized thyroid cartilage (yellow arrow) immediately posterior to the hyoid bone (white arrow).
