Category: Musculoskeletal Imaging, Region: Neck-Larynx, Plane:
TECHNIQUE: Sagittal and axial non-contrast CT, 120kV, 115mAs, 2.7mm slices. FINDINGS: Sagittal (A) and axial (B) views demonstrate extensive subcutaneous soft tissue emphysema. In this particular case, note that laryngotracheal separation cannot be easily identified in this young patient due to lack of calcification along the thyroid, cricoid, and tracheal cartilages. However, telescoping of the faintly visualized thyroid cartilage (yellow arrow) is present, as it appears behind the hyoid bone (orange arrow).
